May is Bike Month... and We’re Making It Easier Than Ever to Ride!

May Bike Month Events at Igor Does My Bike and Igors Bike Shack

May is officially Bike Month, which means there’s no better time to dust off your bike, pump up those tires, and get back out on Chicago’s streets, trails, and neighborhoods. --> Book a Tune Up at the Shop!

At Igor Does My Bike and Igor’s Bike Shack, Bike Month isn’t just another excuse for us to talk about bikes all day (although we do enjoy that). It’s a chance to double down on something that matters deeply to us:

getting more people riding by making biking accessible, welcoming, and fun for everyone.

Not just hardcore cyclists.

Not just commuters.

Not just the people who already know what a derailleur is.

Everyone.

Families. New riders. Students. Neighbors. People who haven’t touched their bike since last summer. People who want to ride but aren’t sure where to start.

That’s why this May, we packed our calendar with events designed to make biking feel easier, more social, and way less intimidating.

Here’s what’s coming up.

Bike to Work Day at Igor’s Bike Shack

Monday, May 4 • 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

📍 Igor’s Bike Shack

Bike commuting deserves rewards — or at minimum, snacks.

Bike to Work Day Deals

Stop by Igor’s Bike Shack on Bike to Work Day for:

  • Free snacks

  • Drinks

  • Discounts: 10% off accessories

Whether you commute every day or this is your once-a-year “I should really bike to work” attempt, we want to cheer you on.

Because the more people who realize biking to work is doable, the better.

Decatur Family Group Ride

Saturday, May 9 • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

📍 Igor Does My Bike

This one is all about showing families that biking can be one of the easiest and most fun ways to spend time together.

We’re partnering with Decatur families for an Edgewater Playground Crawl, with:

  • easy neighborhood riding,

  • snack stops at each playground,

  • and a pizza party finale at Pizza Lobo.

No intense mileage. No pressure. Just kids, parents, bikes, and a reminder that neighborhood adventures are a lot more fun on two wheels.

Interested in hosting a ride like this in partnership with your local elementary school? Email us at events@igorsbikeshack.com.

Edgewater Soccer Season Kickoff Ride

Saturday, May 16 • Meet @11:45, Roll @12:00 PM

📍Igor Does My Bike

Edgewater Castle Football Club Group Ride

We’re rallying local riders and soccer fans for a community ride from the shop to Winnemac Stadium to support Edgewater’s local soccer club season opener games.

Get your tickets here and use promo code IGORDOESMYBIKE for 15% off all tickets.

Expect:

  • a casual social ride,

  • discounted game tickets for Igor customers,

  • bike rentals available if you need one,

  • free coozies for your pre-gaming pleasure,

  • and a lot of neighborhood pride.

Because biking to events together is objectively more fun than circling for parking.

Fuel Your Ride with Breakthrough T1D

Sunday, May 17 • 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

📍Igor's Bike Shack

We’re hosting Breakthrough T1D for a day of free snacks, swag, and information about one of the most impactful cycling fundraisers in the country.

Stop by to learn more about:

  • their August Wisconsin century ride,

  • how riders can get involved,

  • and the national advocacy and research work they support in the field of Type 1 Diabetes.

This is a great chance to connect biking with a bigger purpose — and maybe grab some free goodies while you’re at it.

We support multitasking.

FREE Kids Bike Safety Checks

Friday, May 29 • All Day

📍 Igor Does My Bike

Kids Bike Safety Checks

Summer break is around the corner, which means kids are about to spend a lot more time outside — and hopefully a lot more time on bikes.

In partnership with Friends of Peirce Elementary, we’re offering FREE Kids Bike Safety Checks so families can make sure everyone’s bikes are ready to roll.

We’ll check:

  • tires,

  • brakes,

  • chains,

  • seat height,

  • and overall safety.

Because making biking accessible starts young.

And because every parent deserves to hear “can we ride bikes?” without wondering if the chain is going to fly off in 30 seconds.

Group Ride to Grant Slam

Sunday, May 31 • 4:00 PM

📍 Starts at Igor’s Bike Shack

We’re closing out Bike Month with a group ride to Grant Slam Fest, a one-of-a-kind music and arts festival at AIDS Garden Chicago that Igor Does My Bike is proud to sponsor.

We’ll roll together from the Shack, enjoy the lakefront, and head to one of Chicago’s coolest community festivals.

Suggested festival donation is $10, and the vibes are expected to be immaculate.

Why We’re Doing All This

Bike Month matters because every event, every safety check, every family ride, and every free snack stop helps accomplish one thing:

it gets more people comfortable getting on a bike

That has always been the goal at Igor Does My Bike.

We believe biking should be:

  • affordable,

  • approachable,

  • practical,

  • and actually enjoyable.

Not exclusive.

Not intimidating.

Not reserved for “serious cyclists.”

Just accessible transportation, community fun, and a better way to experience Chicago.

So whether you join us for one event or all of them, we hope this month helps you ride a little more.

We’ll be here to help make that easier.
